Would say a "comparable" house in San Francisco is more like 20X...

That's a huge oversimplification. The price of building a house in San Francisco is probably only 2-3X for materials and labor when you consider the earthquake code and new solar energy requirements. But the property itself is 20+X more expensive than in VB. Because of that, everything you purchase, from gasoline to groceries costs significantly more because they have to cover the price of their buildings. Don't forget the taxes...

If you're only making $107K in San Francisco, you're probably living below the poverty line.
